YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-03-18 16:48:10 – India

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the Center’s textile committee have come together to manage textile waste effectively, as part of the ongoing Swachh Survekshan project aimed at enhancing sustainability and cleanliness in the city. This collaboration is a crucial aspect of ongoing efforts to boost the city's cleanliness rating, focusing on properly sorting textile waste, including used clothing, dry garbage, and hazardous household waste.

Rajesh Narvekar, the commissioner and administrator of NMMC, has been advocating for circular and sustainable waste management practices, emphasizing the importance of this initiative.

Narvekar mentioned, "We've signed an MoU with the central textile committee for a practical project named 'pilot project on sustainability and circularity in textile chain TVC (total viable count) by managing post-consumer textile waste.' This marks a significant milestone in collaboration with the central government and various organizations, including SBI Foundation, IDH India, and Tisser Artisan Trust."

This joint project highlights the significance of circularity and sustainability in the textile industry while addressing the challenges posed by textile waste. The agreement was signed by officials from the Ministry of Textiles, the Central Textile Committee, and NMMC during a ceremony in New Delhi, attended by Dr. Babasaheb Rajale, the Swachh Bharat Mission’s nodal officer, and additional city engineer Shirish Aradwad.
