Biotech company Carbios is teaming up with biotech engineering firm De Smet Engineers and Contractors (DSEC) to construct what they claim will be the "first" PET bio-recycling plant, aiming to revolutionize the lifecycle of plastic and textiles.
Carbios stated that their inaugural commercial facility, set to be commissioned in 2025, will play a crucial role in combating plastic pollution by providing an industrial-scale solution for enzymatic depolymerisation of PET waste, advancing a circular economy for plastic and textiles.
Under the partnership, De Smet will oversee project management, detailed engineering, procurement assistance, and Carbios partners' management to ensure the successful commissioning of the plant in Longlaville, France. Both Carbios CEO Emmanuel Ladent and DSEC CEO Dimitri de Suraÿ expressed confidence in the collaboration, highlighting their shared ambition for a sustainable future.
