The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited (HKRITA) and global technology company Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) have signed a joint development agreement to pioneer an innovative dry fibre recycling solution. Building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2023, the partnership aims to extend material life cycles, promoting a circular economy in the textile industry by minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.

Epson will leverage its dry fibre technology to establish a defibrating process for elastic blended and tightly woven fabrics. HKRITA will provide technical support and evaluate recycling performance, focusing on material properties. The collaboration seeks to offer a swift recycling solution for the textiles and apparel industry, addressing climate change challenges in tandem with Epson.
