Turkish startup Myth AI has created a groundbreaking generative AI tool for the fashion industry, simplifying pattern-making processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. This development directly addresses the industry's significant problem of producing a massive 92 million tonnes of textile waste each year.
The AI-generated designs not only save time in crafting personalized designs but also contribute to minimizing unsold inventory and cutting down on overall waste. The tool further allows digital experimentation with materials before the final physical production of garments.
The fashion sector is known for its substantial environmental impact, contributing 8% of greenhouse gas emissions globally and accounting for 20% of worldwide wastewater. Traditional practices, such as reliance on fabric suppliers and the creation of swatches and prototypes, often result in excessive waste if designs are rejected. This contributes to the staggering 92 million tonnes of annual textile waste. If not addressed, this waste could escalate to a daunting 134 million tonnes by the end of the decade.
Özgecan Üstgül, founder and CEO of Myth AI, emphasizes the technology's ability to swiftly create unique patterns, setting brands apart in an industry heavily dependent on fabric suppliers. Recognized international brands like Ratti in Italy, Telater in Spain, and several Turkish textile firms have already adopted Myth AI. The startup, aiming to reach more companies, has established a London office and is now targeting UK-based businesses.
