Candiani Denim, known for eco-friendly denim, has introduced the world’s first stretch denim that is entirely natural and biodegradable. This innovation could mark a significant shift towards more sustainable denim. They launched a collection in collaboration with Coreva Design at the Banner luxury fashion retailer in Milan.
Coreva Design, in partnership with Candiani Denim, uses a unique technology. They craft their fabrics using plant-based materials from natural rubber. This replaces the need for synthetic fibers, making the stretch denim fully biodegradable within four months. This is a positive step towards reducing environmental impact.
The collection includes a range of clothing like leisurewear, premium denim, and ready-to-wear garments. They are made from the comfortable Coreva fabric, available in various colors. The premium denim line offers different styles, while the ready-to-wear section presents fashionable designs.
Coreva Design is targeting individuals who prioritize sustainability. They plan to selectively distribute their products in high-fashion department stores globally. The brand strongly values aesthetics, ethical practices, short supply chains, and vertically integrated production.
The problem with sustainability in stretch jeans arises from the materials used for elasticity. Traditional stretch jeans often use synthetic fibers like spandex, which is derived from petroleum. The production of such materials involves extracting fossil fuels and energy-intensive manufacturing processes, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental harm.
