Saucony, a well-known brand for running gear, is taking a big step towards being more environmentally friendly. They've just introduced their most sustainable shoe yet, called the Triumph RFG (Run For Good).

This new shoe uses plant-based dyes in the upper part and a special type of foam for the midsole that's made from 55% corn. This helps reduce the use of plastic, which is harmful to the environment. The outsole of the shoe is made from 80% natural rubber, which performs just as well as synthetic rubber. The Triumph RFG will be available to buy from September 5 on the Saucony website and in select stores around the world.

Even though they're celebrating their 125th anniversary this year, they're not stopping. They believe that taking care of the planet is important for the future of both the sport and the Earth. Saucony has been working on being more sustainable for a while. In their Spring 2020 clothing line, almost all the styles were made using organic, recycled, or renewable materials. Then, in 2021, they made the Jazz Court RFG shoe using only natural materials and no plastic. This was their most eco-friendly shoe at the time, and it met their goal of not using new plastic in their products. In 2022, they even partnered with Cycora by Ambercycle™ to create running tops from 23% Cycora material, which is a type of recycled polyester made from old textiles that would have ended up in landfills.

Brian Moore, who's in charge of products at Saucony, says that the materials they use to make their gear can have a big impact on the environment. That's why they focus on using natural and recycled materials. They want to avoid using chemicals and processes that harm the environment. Moore explains that sometimes, sustainability and good performance don't go together, but Saucony wants to change that. The Triumph RFG shows that they can make a shoe that's both eco-friendly and performs well. And they're making sure it's affordable too.
