Copenhagen Fashion Week announces to ban fur

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-08-12 12:28:26 – Denmark

Copenhagen Fashion Week, which takes place this week in the capital of Denmark, has become the latest European show to ban fur, following in suit of Amsterdam, Helsinki, Oslo fashion weeks.

As genuine fur gradually gives way to faux fur in the fashion business, concerns about animal welfare, waste disposal, and ecological techniques are frequently voiced in the headlines.

Mimi Bekhechi, PETA Vice President for Europe, said that PETA and compassionate fashionistas everywhere are applauding the news that Copenhagen Fashion Week will go fur-free. In addition to names like Gucci, Versace, Prada, Valentino, Armani, Chanel, and just about every other significant fashion house that has previously prohibited the use of animal fur, the event will now join fashion weeks in Amsterdam, Helsinki, Oslo, and other cities.

Bekhechi added that this action comes in response to a consumer awakening sparked by PETA supporters throughout the world who increased the pressure by highlighting Danish "high-welfare" fur as a cruel and unsustainable fraud. Today, designers all around the world are adopting sustainable, cutting-edge vegan textiles, and fur is as extinct as the animals it was stolen from. Now, Milan and Paris fashion weeks must adopt the same standards."

After AW23, Moncler declared it will stop using animal fur from carefully bred or wild animals in all of its collections, while Dolce & Gabbana said it would switch to eco-friendly faux fur in all of its products.

Armani, Gucci, Prada, and Yoox Net-a-Porter are among the rising number of multinational firms who have pledged to exclude actual fur from their product lines.

Following consultations with the animal welfare group Humane Society International/Europe, Italy has also outlawed fur farming in a historic decision by the Italian Senate's Budget Committee (HSI).
