London-based materials science brand, PANGAIA, has launched a new earth-friendly invention in the shape of its latest collection, the "Re-color" capsule.
PANGAIA has long been recognized for its thick sweatshirts and tracksuits in brilliant colors that are created using sustainable processes, and the company has now taken its sustainability credentials to the next level. The new collection includes the brand's characteristic sweatshirts and sweatpants in a variety of hues, but this time the goods have been colored using a responsible dye method called Recycrom™. The method essentially converts PANGAIA textile waste into colorful powder dyes, which are subsequently utilized to color the items.
The technology (which comes from Italian textile chemical company Officina+39) transforms the recycled textile fibers into colorful powders that are used as a pigment dye for cotton, wool, and nylon textiles and garments by utilizing the brand's offcut materials. Recycrom is distinct in that it is not part of a chemical solution, allowing it to be easily filtered from water during the dyeing process.
The capsule contributes to PANGAIA's efforts to develop more sustainable color solutions and dyes that use less water and toxic chemicals. The new procedure also seeks to decrease the brand's material waste and assist it in transitioning to a more circular structure. "Re-color" consists of a sweatshirt, track trousers, T-shirt, and shorts in muted hues like “Aloe Green,” “Sky Blue,” “Apricot,” “Coral Pink” and “Banana,” each repurposed from PANGAIA’s core colorways.
