Fashion Revolution, Fashion for Good, and TrusTrace have teamed up to launch a comprehensive traceability playbook focused on building responsible supply chains.
The Traceability Playbook, which was launched on the 7th of June 2022 in Copenhagen during the Global Fashion Summit, combines analysis of evolving market dynamics with incoming legislation, as well as practical guidance on how to use traceability to meet company goals.
Megan Doyle, a sustainable fashion writer, wrote the book with the goal of helping firms grasp the fundamentals of supply chain traceability. It also features case studies from Balenciaga, Gucci, and Adidas, as well as current insights and actual examples of effective practice.
Amina Razvi of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Paul Foulkes-Arellano of Circuthon, and Baptiste Carriere-Pradal of Policy Hub were among the industry leaders who shared their expertise on their respective themes.
TrusTrace saw a 350% rise in brand requests for traceability guidance and support year over year, prompting the creation of the playbook.
Shameek Ghosh, Co-founder and CEO of TrusTrace, said that they're at an inflection moment as an industry when sustainability is growing from a 'nice-to-have' to a 'must-have' business imperative; a stage at which one's greenline is becoming a every bit as vital as one's bottom line. However, with this growth comes the need for information – on how to best manage this long-term shift – which is why they collaborated with Fashion Revolution and Fashion for Good to create the Traceability Playbook.
Liv Simpliciano, Policy & Research Manager of Fashion Revolution, said that transparency is the beginning point, not the finish in itself. The Traceability Playbook is a resource that democratizes access to industry experts' knowledge and, more significantly, identifies areas where more traceability and transparency are required to catalyze change.
Holly Syrett, Director of Impact Programmes & Sustainability of Global Fashion Agenda, said that digital traceability is a vital enabler for the circular economy, and they believe it has an essential role to play in ensuring a just transition and distributing wealth equally across all players. To achieve this aim, they encourage fashion leaders to collaborate in pre-competitive and cross-sectoral ways. The Traceability Playbook is a valuable public resource that will assist them all in moving toward a net-positive industry.
