Apparel manufacturer Alpine Group, has partnered with Transformation Textile on an initiative to combat period poverty by repurposing pre-consumer textile waste.
Alpine Group, which works with brands like Sweaty Betty, The North Face, and Under Armour, is collaborating with Transformation Textiles on the Dignity Kits program, which uses pre-consumer textile waste to provide every woman in rural Africa and refugee camps with the supplies she needs to manage her period.
According to Alpine Group, the initiative to combat period poverty has benefited over 100,000 women in several countries so far, and the UN Commitment Maker Program, which was part of the UN's 2021 Generation Equality Forum held in Paris last year, is set to help a minimum of another 250,000 women in the next five years.
Alpine Group also established a training center in collaboration with For Her Dignity, where applicants are trained to become qualified machine operators and cutting technicians in order to earn long-term work in the sewing sector, providing chances and job stability.
