South Korean fiber manufacturer, Hyosung, has launched xanadu, a unique bio-based polyester yarn that has piqued the interest of athleisure brands looking to capitalize on the commuter-ready apparel trend by providing the perfect blend of elasticity, comfort, and style.
Textiles developed with Hyosung's xanadu mechanical stretch fiber are assisting companies in creating performance wear with a more business-casual appeal.
Hyosung xanadu is a multipurpose fiber manufactured from a combination of PET and corn-based ingredients. Regen xanadu, the company's eco-friendly alternative, is created from a mix of recycled post-consumer PET and corn-based ingredients.
The secret to offering comfortable stretch and recovery is Xanadu's spring-like construction. It also has the advantages of rapid moisture movement and drying. It's also wrinkle-resistant and color-retains, making it ideal for long-lasting, easy-to-care-for apparel.
Mike Simko, Hyosung's worldwide marketing director for textiles, said that they've had amazing interest in xanadu due to the fiber's mix of stretch, recovery, fit, and comfort. It's a wonderful answer for performance wear types like commuting pants, joggers, and workout shirts that require more comfort than high control.
Hyosung has produced a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for its GRS Certified, 100 percent recycled regen polyester fibers made from post-consumer PET, due to the popularity of its multi-functional recycled yarns. A third-party certifier conducted the investigation, which found that regen polyester reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 66.5 percent when compared to virgin polyester in the production of 1 kilogram. In addition, when compared to virgin polyester, regen polyester reduces the consumption of fossil fuels by 80% and the use of water by 71%.
