London-based material science and clothing company, Pangaia, expanded its denim portfolio with the launch of its latest textile innovation— PANHemp, in partnership with Unspun, the robotics and digital apparel company building custom jeans on demand.
Pangaia has linked up with Jonathan Cheung once again to design the exclusive 13-ounce denim in partnership with Turkish denim mill Orta.
The entirely plant-based fabric is made with rain-fed hemp and organic cotton and natural indigo is used to dye some of the washes in the collection. The PANHemp fabric is then woven in reverse to form Pangaia's signature left-hand twill before being treated with PPRMINT oil to make it soft, robust, and long-lasting.
The PANHemp collection includes straight-leg jeans, a cropped denim jacket, women's high-rise wide-leg jeans, a denim shearling jacket in three washes, and a shearling jacket lined with recycled wool and Tencel fabric, all of which are available now on Pangaia's website. Prices range between ÂŁ153 and ÂŁ231.
Pangaia's hemp collection will be available on unspun's new AI-powered app starting November 11th, which allows customers to create custom-fitting jeans using a 10-second iPhone scan and proprietary software. The brand is the first to take advantage of the technology-enabled platform, which was previously only available at a few select retail locations.
TrueDepth sensors on the phone camera are used in the app, which allows sensors to take measurements by projecting and analyzing millions of invisible dots. This infrared image is then converted into a three-dimensional representation of the person. Customers can choose their favorite wash color and preferred hem length.
Unspun Co-Founder, Beth Esponnette, said that this is a game-changing partnership between a stunning product made of dreamlike, eco-friendly materials and cutting-edge technology that ushers fashion into the twenty-first century. Pangaia is the only partner unspun has discovered who shares its values of protecting the world and saving humanity.
Pangaia released its first-ever denim collection using wild Himalayan nettles in October, designed in collaboration with Cheung, a former Levi's denim designer.
Pangaia Denim Designer and unspun Advisor, Cheung, said that they’re thrilled to work with unspun, and when you see the unique fits, it's hard not to think you're seeing at a peek of the future.
The unspun app can be downloaded from the App Store. Straight-leg jeans, wide-leg jeans, and a jeans short start at ÂŁ140 in the Pangaia x Unspun capsule.
