Allbirds, sustainable footwear, and apparel company has revealed that by 2025, it will only use wool from regenerative sources, furthering its commitment to a sustainable approach to manufacturing and product.
Within the next year, the direct-to-consumer company will deliver the first goods manufactured from recycled fiber, and it will partner with existing vendors to achieve the target of completely shifting manufacturing by 2025.
The need to improve its sourcing activities is in line with the company's 2025 aim of making its wool supply carbon-neutral.
The latest pledge focuses on Allbirds' most resource-intensive natural material: merino wool, which accounts for only 25% of the company's natural resources but accounts for 80% of natural material-related emissions.
Allbirds also publishes the carbon emissions on each permanent product, with updated numbers appearing on product websites and being printed on merchandise on an annual basis.
The retailer entered the performance footwear market in April 2020 with the release of Dasher, a running shoe made from recycled natural materials. In addition, the company recently collaborated with well-known brand Adidas and moved into new product ranges, such as sustainable clothing.
