Numi, a Canadian conscious underwear brand established in 2013 by former equity trader Michelle Shemilt, has released its new line, Sustainable SilkTM. Although the collection's name means that it is completely made of silk, this is not the case.

The "Sustainable Silk" collection from Numi isn't quite completely made of "peace silk." Its silk range includes a combination of 29% silk and 69% Naia, a super soft, easy-to-care-for fabric made from sustainably grown pine and eucalyptus wood crafted in a closed-loop method. The silk collection is sustainable due to the incorporation of this lower-impact fabric in particular.

Silkworms (which aren't really worms, but rather mulberry-eating moth pupa) weave silk to create the cocoon for their transformation into a moth in traditional silk production. Silk workers usually boil or gas cocoons in order to unravel the fragile silk thread. The silkworms are killed as a result of this process. A total of 6,600 worms are needed to produce one kilogram of silk. The blended essence of Numi's "Sustainable Silk" has resulted in the deaths of fewer silkworms.

The collection is made responsibly in Canada with high-quality fabrics imported from Italy, and each garment is handled with bluesign® compliant stain repellent technology, making it water, oil, and dirt resistant.
