For Nike sneaker lovers, it has come up with a new limited-edition vegan leather ‘SB dunk’ collection which is marked as 'cruelty-free'. Its new earthy theme reflects the reminiscent of nature. This is for its conscious sneakers lovers to help reduce the carbon footprints. Nowadays, according to many studies, it has been observed that the demand for vegan leather is growing exponentially, so Nike wants to grab the opportunity and deliver high-quality products to move towards a sustainable model.
It launched a 'Move to Zero initiative' in 2019, since then it's altering its methods and resources to deliver sustainable clothing and footwear; keeping its aim at reaching zero carbon emission and zero waste production. Nike also launched earlier, its four silhouette collection 'Space Hippie' made from sustainable materials, proving the point that sustainable fashion can be trendy and practical at the same time.
Nike managed to utilize recycled bottles, T-shirts, post-industrial waste in that collection and also went on exploring and experimenting with recycled nylon, polyester and organic cotton in upcoming elections. John Hoke, Nike's Chief Design Officer, says that it's all about how we can produce more valued products using least of the resources, energy and carbon emission. This also influenced other sneaker brands, as a result Adidas also came up with its sustainable 'mushroom leather' collection.
Firstly the SB dunk will only be released at Soul Sneaker Boutique in Mexico and other shoe shops in Europe. There is no chance for it reaching the US this time but we can expect more sustainable collections anytime sooner.
