A Westchester woman has launched her own startup called Play It Forward Clothing focused on creating a platform for repurposed clothing and promoting environmental consciousness.
The 20-year-old veteran has expertise in designing for Macy’s and the Kardashians. Through repurposing kids’ clothing gives her an opportunity to follow her passion and combat issues in the fashion industry. She stated that the new brand helps her focus on what’s important to her and what’s important for the industry.
The new brand collects kid’s clothing and re-uses them to create exclusive designs and themed clothing lines. Turner stated that the fashion industry was the leading producer of waste and she decided to lead the change. This business model executes zero waste and a sustainable system. She explained that she wanted to educate people about the industry and to think twice about pre-loved clothes.Â
The owner stated that the consumers shopping in companies like her own are aiding the in the reduction of their carbon footprint. The company is also giving back by donating a bundle of clothing to a charity in Westchester. Although she has single-handedly launched the company, she had relied on the support from her community in Westchester.
Another component of Play It Forward is the timeless element of children’s clothing. She stated that parents are connected to the memories that children wear in clothes and when they donate it they get to see the garment gain a second life. People right now love a good mission and a good purpose, and they want to do good. Turner hopes that her purpose resonates with customers and she looks forward to expanding her online market to boom.
