Sanuk has announced the launch of its latest sustainable collection called SustainaSole. This marks the brand’s second SustainaSole collection this year. The collection comprises 55% recycled materials by weight. The brand focuses on innovation in the sustainable space and continue to create footwear. The new SustainaSole styles are vegan and available in the women’s slip-on Donna style, as well as the men’s slip-on Skuner style.
Both the styles are set to retail at $65. Sanuk has joined hands with Blumaka to launch their new collection to ensure foam waste is diverted and turned into quality, comfortable and sustainable shoes. This has been done as an initiative to address the footwear industry’s heavy, waste-generating reliance on virgin foams and provide a soft Cushiony feel. The recycling process of the foam involved the collected scarps to be grinned into smaller pieces and use it to create a cushy, durable filler for shoe soles. The uppers of the shoes are designed using 100% Recycled GRS Certified Fibers, including recycled PET fibers, recycled cotton fibers and recycled polyester fibers.
The uppers are undyed to ensure water and energy was saved. The undyed uppers have conserved over 200,000 gallons of water. Sanuk has reduced greenhouse gas impact by nearly three pounds per men’s Skuner model and nearly two pounds per women’s Donna model. The label woven has also been made from 100% Recycled Polyester. Socklines in the shoes have been composed using 85% Recycled PU Foam and 15% Virgin Material.
The bottom unit of the shoes is made from BLUMAKA’s patented technology, consisting of 35% Recycled Foam content by weight and 75% by volume. The brand also focuses on easy maintenance and has ensured both the styles of shoes are machine washable. With an emphasis on durability and elevated materials, Sanuk is continuously dedicated to making long-lasting and comfortable footwear that ensures a positive contribution to the fashion industry’s environmental footprint.
Erik Ecklund, the General Manager at Sanuk, stated that Sanuk was committed to seeking new materials and processes to create sustainable products. He stated that the shoes marked a big step forward in their journey and the footwear industry towards sustainable innovations. He concluded that they were proud to give a stylish new life to things that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
In addition to the launch of the new SustainaSole styles, Sanuk is dedicated to lightening their environmental footprint with their use of sustainable hemp, sustainable leather and other recycled materials.
