A Halifax tech organization has developed a digital platform to reduce the volume of textile waste. Seddi Canada's platform will provide detailed, 3D simulations of garments that are realistic, and fabrics that accurately demonstrate how the materials react. It aims to create a realistic simulation experience that allows the users to not only understand the garment but also the properties of the fabric used.
ACOA has made a substantial investment which is repayable of $477,075 to Seddi Canada to develop the prototype textile simulation software and hardware for the market.
Market studies indicate the technology’s accurate fabric models will facilitate brands to design and assemble digital clothing samples without using a single piece of textile. This ensures a reduction in the lead time to bring products to the market. This process not only ensures cost-effective results but also ensures that fabric isn’t wasted. In addition, it will also eliminate the need for shipping expensive fabric samples, which often go unused, significantly reducing development costs and related environmental impacts.
The software will also be able to determine the outcome through digital prototyping instead of manual labor. The level of accuracy obtained through the digitized platform offers promising results even from the designing point of view.
