What are the end uses of Neoprene fiber?

< All Topics

Due to the versatile nature of Neoprene, it can be used for many a wide range of products. Let’s see what are the applications of neoprene:

• Industrial use: The property of Neoprene to not get affected by chemicals makes it very useful in a wide range of industrial applications. Neoprene is used for making different types of adhesives and corrosion-resistant coatings. due to heat and static resistance property, it is also used to make products like sealing gaskets, hoses.

• Electrical and electronic: Neoprene is fire and static-resistant hence it is used as raw material to manufacture electrical items like power transformers, light bulbs, wires, and insulators. Its cushioning ability also makes it suitable for manufacturing protectors for laptops etc.

• Soft Furnishing: Cushioning property of neoprene is useful in products like seat covers for stool and chairs. Products that require denser cushion like wheelchairs, orthopedic cushioning at clinics are also manufactured with neoprene.

• Fashion & textiles: Neoprene fabric is not made using weaving or knitting. This provides the biggest advantage for designers as the fabric can be manufactured with very fine thickness such as 3mm or 6mm. The fabric is lightweight and has a denser structure which provides its added feature of ‘form-fitting’, this allows the designer to create new shapes and forms.neoprene can be combined with other types of fiber and are also available in a variety of colors like polyester neoprene.

• Sportswear: For the dry type of sports thin layer of neoprene is laminated over lycra to make the fabric lightweight and stretchy. These sporting fabrics also provide thermal insulation are airtight hence used for water sports like surfing, triathlon, kayaking and other light water sports. For deep sea diving, a denser grade of neoprene is used which is known as dry neoprene. Neoprene also sees its application in scuba equipment, wetsuits, swimsuits, swimming gloves, fishing wear, and even golfing jackets as it provides insulation and is watertight.

• Automotive uses: Neoprene is also used to manufacture automotive parts like window and door seals, seats, seat covers, hose covers, belts, vibration mounts, and shock absorber seals. These products are abrasion, tear, solvent, oil, and weather-resistant.

• Medical use: Medical equipment like braces, wrist, knee, and elbow supports are being manufactured using neoprene material because of its flexibility, wearability, and ability to keep its shape over time.
Packaging: For packaging of fragile material neoprene is used for providing padding and reinforcement.

• Construction: Construction material like washers, bridge bearing pads, elevator astragals, etc are made using neoprene because it is temperature and compression resistant.

• Other applications include notebook sleeves, tablet holders, remote controllers, mouse pads, lunch totes, Halloween masks, etc.
