What is kenaf fiber?

Kenaf is a bast fiber extracted from the outer bark of the plant. The scientific name of kenaf is Hibiscuc cannabinus and belongs to the family Malvaceace. Kenaf is also known by other names such as Guinea Hemp, Mesta, Bimli, Ambary Hemp, Deccan Hemp, Dah and Bimlipatnum Jute.
Kenaf is a tall and slender plant and can grow up to a height of 8-14feet and resembles cotton and oak. It is a cellulosic annual fiber and requires warm conditions which is why it is grown in abundance in Africa. The kenaf plant native to Africa has been cultivated for over 4,000 years.

The kenaf plant has the ability to grow in various types of soil provided that the drainage system is well set since the blockage in the entry of water may result in standing water in the field and cause problems in plant growth. However, the kenaf plants grow well in fertile soil.
