Polyamide or nylon prices surge on modest demand

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2019-03-05 07:41:48 –

Nylon or polyamide chip (nylon-6) prices moved up in the second week of February in line with higher CPL cost. In China, offers for nylon chip prices were raised driven by surging raw materials cost during the week. Most of the downstream mills had previously stocked up materials before holidays. However, inventory level is low post-holiday and it is likely that nylon chip producers may increase their run rates to fill the inventory levels.

Caprolactum (CPL) prices in Asia surged despite weak benzene markets during the week. In China, CPL prices jumped significantly in the week on modest demand post-New Year holidays. Overall, CPL prices may inch up further in coming weeks.

Nylon filament yarn prices were stable-to-up amid rising caprolactum and nylon chip prices during the week. However, yarn prices did not move as significantly as the raw materials markets. In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD prices were up US cents 2 a kg on the week, while FDY40D rose similarly during the week.
