Fiji government through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism (MITT), has geared its support to the Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) Council as part of its commitment to support key industries that play a major role in Fiji’seconomy. The government has provided a $100,000 marketing grant for the industry this financial to enhance exports of Fijian Made — Fijian Sewn products.
The Fijian Government recognizes the TCF industry as a fundamental contributor towards growth of the Fijian economy through trade and employment creation and has continued to support the industry in various ways over 10 years," a Government statement said yesterday.
In today's globally competitive environment, their TCF industry also faces numerous challenges. The marketing grant was introduced in 2009 by the Fijian Government to assist the industry in adapting to the changing trade environment.
With this, Government has indicated its commitment to continue complementing the efforts of the TCF Council to ensure the viability and sustainability of the growing TCF industry.
One of the plans of the TCF Council this year is to expand its market influence through further research and development to secure new markets for its Fijian Made — Fijian Sewn products.
The TCF industry has rapidly become a critical part of the economic structure of Fiji, exporting garments to Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Pacific Island countries over the recent year.
The TCF sector has over the years reinvented itself with the ability to attract a diverse range of markets.
