Earthspun Apparel and textile leader, Patrick Yarn Mills (Kings Mountain, NC) at the Queen City Brewers Festival this weekend introduced an eco-friendly line of t-shirts, which are individually made from 6.5 (20-ounce) recycled beer bottles. According to Jerry Wheeler, Earthspun Apparel Founding Co-partner, 50 million water bottles go into landfills each day in the country. That’s a lot of excess waste and by collaborating with Queen City Brewers Festival, they are helping Charlotte breweries become more sustainable.
To illustrate how many bottles Earthspun Apparel is diverting from landfills, they donated two hundred and fifty of their Festival t-shirts to the first one hundred ticket holders. That number totals up to 1,625 bottles made into apparel and reinforces Earthspun Apparel and Patrick Yarn Mills mission to help keep communities cleaner for the next generation. Together, Earthspun Apparel and Patrick Yarn Mills are both globally recognized for their innovative measures in protecting the environment with sustainable practices that enhance and bring positive change to the overall textile industry.
They are supporting Charlotte’s independent breweries and America’s pastime for beer, and also promoting that the craft beer industry can be sustainable, by simply implementing forward thinking and innovative recycling efforts. And they do that by taking the plastic bottles you drink from everyday and turning them into a t-shirt you could be wearing tomorrow.
Earthspun’s process is simple and straightforward. They take discarded plastic bottles, X-ray film and black food trays, and shred the material and then extrude those pieces into fibers that are blended with recycled cotton and spun into yarn right here in North Carolina. Ultimately, the final product is perfectly smooth, super durable and extremely soft and comfortable.
Earthspun Apparel is proud to partner with the annual beer festival and support the local brewers who create artisan, craft-style beers, while highlighting its environmental message in ‘Saving the World One Beer At a TimeTM.
