Surin province is located in the north east of Thailand , a land of prestigious silk, weaving beautiful silk for more than 2,000 years. Silk woven here is produced from very fine thread of silk, dyed naturally, and woven with delicate pattern from the past. The village produces also ancient style cloth called Pha Yok Thong, which is woven from pure silver line and golden-coloured silk. The Thai silk festival 2014 was held to unveil the history of the refined silk production of the province as well as its cultural heritage, and promote the popularity of Surin silk.
The silk threads used here are highly delicate, soft, lustrous and of highest quality. The silk threads are dyed with colors from natural ingredients. For instance, red color comes from lac, and yellow color from turmeric. These threads are woven tightly and elaborately to yielddiverse patterns.
The festival is held in front of the Khwao Sinarin District Office, at the festival residents of Khwao Sinarin District showed their support to the event by dressing up in Surin silk. Various styles of silk cloth and ornaments made from silver were also exhibited at the event to showcase the ancient culture dated back to the time when this region was under the Khom influence.
A fashion show of traditional Thai silk and ancient jewelry designs was also part of the annul silk festival in order to celebrate the local wisdom in silk production.
Apart from featuring the different silk styles of each community, the festival included fun activities and entertainment programs, sales of OTOP products and cultural performances.
