The Handloom expo was inaugurated by the district collector R Nanthagopal on Monday which has handloom weavers attached to 57 cooperative weavers societies from across the district and some from other district who have set up around 12 stalls to market their products during this festive season.
According to K Selvarajan, assistant director handloom, the week-long expo is held to create public awareness about the handloom products besides helping the weavers to showcase their products and sell them directly to the consumers.
The expo is organized under the aegis of Department of Handlooms and Textiles, government of Tamilnadu and the Department of Handlooms, Government of India,
The expo is being organised in Vellore after a gap of eight years. Selvarajan said that the weavers’ societies from Gudiyattam, Kaveripakkam, Sholinghur, Kengyanallur, Sathuvachari, K V Kuppam, Tirupattur and Ambur have exhibited cotton products such as sarees, llungies, dhotis, bed spreads, curtains, towels, pillow covers etc.
Weavers from Tirupur, Vandavasi, Salem, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram have displayed the silk and cotton sarees, kora sarees, silk dhotis etc. All the products carry 30 percent discount.

The Expo held at the Town Hall and open between 9 am and 9 pm. the Velloreans are called to make use of the occasion to buy handloom products and support the weavers.
