Coverage of Bt cotton across India has risen from 3,800 thousand hectares in 2006 to 6,200 thousand hectares in 2007. Maharashtra leads in area under Bt cotton with coverage rising from 1,840 thousand hectares in 2006 to 2,880 thousand hectares in 2007, followed by Andhra Pradesh, with its coverage increasing from 830 thousand hectares to 1,190 thousand hectares.
Gujarat has increased acreage under Bt cotton cultivation from 470 thousand hectares in 2006 to 818 thousand hectares in 2007.
